Do you ever wonder how it feels to ride on those chutes half a mile away from White Beach? Those candy colored canopies that hover over during sunset are enough to attract anyone to seek the experience of parasailing. Parasailing is such a common water activity in any tropical island vacation, but a Boracay vacation will not be the same without taking a bite on this exhilarating experience. The thrill of being in flight and be swayed by a gentle gust of wind above 5-10 stories high while overlooking the surrounding pristine blue waters is enough to inject excitement on this breathtaking sport. It is a gentle ride on air while being carried by this colorful canopy chute and be towed by a rope attached to a moving speedboat. It’s best to ride with a buddy or a special someone so if you are scared of heights, you have each other to hold on to and hopefully gradually ease off on that death grip after a few minutes of the ride.

Remember safety first and must take appropriate precautions. Operators will definitely not welcome anyone to ride if the weather is too rough. If the sky looks doubtful, play it safe and reschedule. Bring a camera to capture the moment, but must let the handlers know beforehand, as some operators slow down and dip the guests in the water. You must also double check the security of your harness yourself, better be safe than sorry.

Book with us now.

Crystal Cove is a park on Laurel Island that have walk paths leading you to different picnic areas overlooking an uninterrupted panoramic view of awe-inspiring crystal blue waters of South China Sea. It is just a short banca boat ride off the Coast of Boracay Island and the mainland port Caticlan. Crystal Cove is undoubtedly the highlight of a typical Island Hopping tour. It also has areas perfect for snorkeling and some nice relaxing trekking is set up around with abundant choices of photo op spots for that perfect panoramic postcard shot to take home. There are stairs that lead you to some crystal formations and incredible turquoise waters created by the limestone. The second cave is a much larger cave which gradually leads to a tunnel that you have to crouch through, and leads to another cave pool. It also has a wooden viewing deck for those who just want to admire the cave from the distance. There is an entrance and maintenance fee required, so please check current amount listed on our site while booking.

Come book with us today for an Island Hopping Tour and visit Crystal Cove.
What is a tropical vacation without checking the local marine life? Boracay has gained a solid reputation for macro diving because of calm tides and the abundance of small critters such as, piperfish, gobies and nudibranchs, as well as the usual colorful reef fishes like damsels, angelfish, wrasses, squirrelfish and cardinals. Generally at 15-20 meters, there are parrotfish, emperors, triggerfish, and groupers. Some sharks, tunas, trevallies and rays are sighted at the deep water of Yapak and Camia. Coral growth is very healthy and spectacular in areas with steady current, such as Crocodile Island and Laurel. The surface temperature is 28 degrees Celsius between December to February and can go up to 38 degrees Celsius between March and June. Visibility is at an average 30-50 meters from April to June and about 15-25 meters visibility all year round. The currents along the longer parts of Boracay Island – east and west- are mild and perfect for beginners or training. For the northern and southern channels along Boracay Island, the currents could be fierce and tide time tables are consulted prior to diving. The bottom composition of Boracay dive areas at any depth is fine white sand, which reflects sunlight and makes the surrounding very bright during dives.

To summarize the dive sites in Boracay Island, for beginners best to chose Angol Point, Coral Garden, Laguna de Boracay and for deep diving training, Virgin Drop. Yapak, Laurel, Crocodile Island and Balinghai are best for sloping wall dives that goes as deep as 40-70 meters. Check out Camia for wreck diving. Camia is Boracay’s house wreck, has a 30 meter-long cargo boat sank as a Fish Attraction Device in January 2001 and since developed into a nice artificial reef. For diving on drifts, check out Channel Drift and Tulobhan Reef.

Book your hotel with MyBoracayGuide and inquire about our diving adventures.

As a reggae fan I was excited about coming to the Philippines as I expected it to be a bastion of the reggae vibe. I had traveled through the Philippines before and seen the ubiquitous red, gold and green, the Bob Marley wall hangings and a surprising number of locals sporting dreads. So it was with much surprise that I didn’t really find much of what I was looking for. Sure there are bands all over playing Marley covers and you do here the syncopated rhythm here and there, but there was no real scene. Me being an “internet guy” I turned to the net to figure out what was going on. I figured there should at least be some Reggae in Manila. Again I was disappointed. Do a search for “Reggae in the Philippines” and see what comes up. Let me tell you, not much. So after years of searching I kind of gave up.

Then about a month ago a group called Dubplate/Red-I Sound System (really not sure on the name) made a stop here in Boracay playing for two nights. I was told that it’s more the electronic/dub side of reggae and not the roots that I normally search out, but oh well, bring it on.

The first night went down at Jungle bar, Boracay’s true island style nightlife venue. I gotta say, these guys really rocked the house. DJ after DJ came on with really interesting sets. It was reggae, but certainly not like I had heard it before. Interestingly, you can hear old school beats and tracks being mixed into the dub. Everyone was getting into it and enjoying themselves. My friends and I left at about 4am feeling that we had finally found some cool reggae in the Philippines.

The second night was held at Exit bar on the white beach front. It was another great show with a great crowd. You know, there’s really not much original music going on in Boracay. Because it’s a tourist destination you tend to get lots of cover songs and lots of DJ’s playing the same songs over and over. Having these guys playing here was awesome. And you could tell that the people walking down the beach path knew something cool was going on. A lot of people just stopped to watch and listed as the tracks were laid down. The show wound down a bit early due to noise but was great nonetheless.

Well, my friends and I were so impressed with what we heard that we decided to go to Manila the next weekend to see these guys put on their weekly Sunday show at B-Side in Makati. Wow. If we thought the Boracay reggae show was good this was off the chart. There were two live bands, a mobile reggae DJ van, and a nice selection of MC’s rapping out all kinds of reggae rhymes. And here’s one of the best parts, there was a great crowd. Even on a Sunday night the turnout was impressive. Not just impressive in terms of numbers but impressive in that they were so into the music and the scene. Lots of smiles, dancing, jamming. What a great time.

So we salute you Red-I Sound System. Thanks for finally giving me some great reggae in the Philippines. We look forward to more good times at B-Side.

See more photos of what’s going on at B-Side here http://www.facebook.com/media/albums/?id=252630244525

Kalibo to Boracay on your own

When you land in Kalibo, clear customs and find your bags, you can find many independent drivers outside, if you find one you like, negotiate a price to the port. The prices for each type of service are different but it’s about sixty pesos for a jeepney to upwards of 1000 pesos for a private van. Many vacation goers choose to use some of the reasonably priced, safety certified transport specialists who take care of all the important details. This allows you to just kick back and enjoy your ride through the grass capped mountains and pristine coastlines on the ninety minute Kalibo to Boracay drive.

Landing in Kalibo

After you clear the airport you will more or less have three choices for transport to Boracay. These choices being bus, van or Jeepney. If you share one of the many vans waiting outside the airport with strangers, a seat will cost around 100 pesos. If you want to haggle a price, you can simply charter the van by yourself. The Jeepneys are the cheapest option, and are great for budget travelers who enjoy the grind of adventure!

Arranging transport at the Caticlan Jetty Port

Once you get into the Jetty Port, you have to pay several small fees at different windows for a grand total of 125 pesos, though this amount could change. After that, you will go through a security search and then walk down to the port, find which boat you have a ticket for and wait. As with the overland Kalibo to Caticlan transfer, private transport companies are also available to complete this process for you.

Welcome to Boracay!

BORACAY ISLAND. This January 12th, Dubplate Boracay will feature LA based music producer and DJ Daedelus at Jungle Bar on the Bulabog back beach. Daedelus is an experimental dance music producer that counts 12 major albums to his name and a long list of prestigious performances and collaborations. What makes this DJ unique is his use of a Monome which is a hardware controller that has grids of backlit lights that can trigger and retrigger samples or sample sets of music. This is no ordinary DJ as every set becomes an original composition of new dance music which sends the crowds into hypnotic rhythms of dance.

Daedelus is appearing in Boracay by invitation from Noel De Brackinghe (a.k.a DJ Salamangkero), the Philippines renowned live mix DJ, remixer and music producer who manages Shaman Soundsystem and is the one of the hottest promoters in the Boracay dance scene. “This major event is run in association with B-Side, Manila’s leading alternative music club in Makati City”. Explains Noel.

The night will also include performances by elegantly hippy DJ couple Red-i and Soulflower of B-side, also Pasta Groove, Salamangkero himself, Erwin Edralin and a repeat performance from Rob Smith (RSD) the dubstep giant from the UK.

It is windsports season in Boracay. The north eastern monsoon winds are blowing on the Bulabog back beach of Boracay which is the epicenter of Windsurfing and Kiteboarding in S.E. Asia. “The Dubplate Boracay event at Jungle Bar will attract an energetic Kiteboarding fraternity, hundreds of international guests, visitors from Manila, Cebu and around the Philippine islands, as well as Boracay local residents. They will all converge on the remote sandy beach to dance inside the Jungle Bar that is built of bamboo and natural art making it a choice international dance party destination” says Noel.

This year, Daedelus has been busy performing and touring the world with the who’s who of the electronic beat scene including Nosaj Thing, Gaslamp Killer, Free The Robots, Flying Lotus. He also releases his music on labels such as Brainfeeder (Fly Lo’s imprint), Ninja Tune, Magical Properties, Friends Of Friends, Dublab & All City Records (Split EP with Teebs).

Daedelus will also perform at Dubplate Manila on January 14th, 2011 at B-Side, Makati.

Noel comments “We are very proud to have this very talented musician and unique individual to visit Manila and Boracay in Dubplate style! So make sure you don’t miss out on this very special evening”.

Doors open at Jungle Bar on Wednesday 12th January, 2011 at 9pm, and tickets are P100 per person.

(The event is supported by B-Side, The Lazy Dog Bed and Breakfast, Pahuwayan Suites, BKR Boracay Kite Resort and Kasbah Restaurant and Bar).
